Dear Juno, Life in itself starts with a baby being born. Fortunately you did choose to keep your baby and for that millions of people are grateful for you, including the life you brought into this world. Life can be hard, it’s not meant to be easy, especially as a junior in high school. You made a very wise and hard decision;but you were able to bless not only this human being with life, but also a chance for family to a caring mother. As a Christian, I am completely against abortion. However I personally, especially friends, have gone to Planned Parenthood in the hopes of learning more about sex. My school never educated me on the topic, just the organs and systems, and parents never spoke about it.
I don’t believe in abortion. I do believe in other methods however, long-term decisions, such as birth control and condoms. Abortion to me is wrong and frankly I believe it should be illegal. I stand behind the idea that people should account for their mistakes. If a couple chooses not to be responsible then they should deal with the consequences.
Obviously abortion is a touchy subject.
When I hear abortion, it makes me think of the word abomination. It brings out my feelings of disgust and hatred. It makes me want to say “this is wrong!”. “you’re doing it all wrong!” Unfortunately I cannot let myself be blinded by my beliefs. Many of my friends, are on birth control, and a few have already had abortions. I cannot make them choose in favor of what I would do. No life can be compensated for and once a woman is pregnant and wants to have an abortion, she is obligated to physically, mentally, and especially emotionally deal with it. Each one of their decisions has an effect. Not to say that you had it easy, with a couple that was willing to pay hospital bills, doctor visits, ultrasounds, and your unannounced but well-intentioned visits.
But some women, who go through very similar situations, do not have the support that you have. They can get that support thanks to Planned Parenthood, which offers a teal card, covering reproductive expenses such as annual check ups, blood testing, birth control, and simple information(which apparently isn’t that simple since parents like to keep it under wraps).
If I could do anything about the abortion opportunity that Planned Parenthood provides, I would definitely try to abolish it. Instead, I would persuade Planned Parenthood to put money into reaching out to schools and communities. Raise awareness about important opportunities such as this teal card. I never got that kind of information in my younger years, just as many other women and girls did not have. This kind of education is crucial. If you, Juno, had known these risks, or that you would get pregnant your first time, I am almost certain you would have been more careful and taken precautions. I think you did the most smartest and wisest decision that you could. You are a young woman who, from my point of view, had absolutely no extra time or energy to take care of an infant by yourself. Juno, throughout the movie you referred to this baby growing inside of you as a “thing” and even expressing that you never intended for this(pregnancy) to happen. You wouldn’t be able to do this on your own and finish school. Your decision led to to the sprouting of new life, and many women who end up in a situation like yours, should definitely consider following in your footsteps.
